The Thrifty Makeover: 10 Ways To Redecorate Without Spending The Big Bucks
If you want to make changes to your den and still keep it pocket-friendly, you need to research around and steal-copy-imitate then add-delete-finish. Once you get your inspiration, tweak it and give it your own touch. While redecorating your room, keep these tips in mind.
1. Allocate A Budget
This is a must-do, as it gives you an area to work on. Once you set your budget, plan accordingly.
2. Incorporate Prints On Pieces
Don’t limit prints to your bed sheets, bedspreads or cushions; use it on statement pieces such as lampshades, vases, photo frames and even furniture. This will give your room a unique twist and fresh vibe.
3. Work On Your Blank Walls
Want to fill in your blank wall? These ideas could be helpful.
a) Make a collage of you and/or your family.
b) Use old printed (yet well-maintained) bed sheets or bedspreads and convert them into a big wall frame.
c) Paint the wall with a bold hue.
d) Use the borders of photo frames and put them on the wall randomly (see picture below).
e) Create your own texture paint.
4. Mount A Light Source
This is for all those who feel that lampshades take up a lot of space. Mount the lampshade on a wall so it takes away the space from your table and allows you to move and adjust it the way you like.
5. Pay Attention To The Floor
Give your floor a whole new look by simply adding a colorful rug to it. (Yellow adds a burst of color to a monotone room.) The ideal size of a rug should be 6ft x 4ft no matter how spacious or small your room may be. If you don’t want to buy a rug, take a duvet cover, re size it and turn it into a rug.
6. Tuck In A Cosy One-Seater
Tuck in a vintage-looking chair to a corner for an instant resting spot. Depending on your room color, complement the chair with a solid color or add a burst of prints.
7. Add New Features
Adding in pieces like a magazine rack or book stand can make your room look new, without making any real changes. If you don’t want to buy them, use your side tables as one.
8. Add Mirrors
Add depth to your room by putting in a few mirrors, whether small- or medium-sized. They give an illusion of a bigger room.
9. Add Botanical Elements
Small indoor plants or flower pots can make a lonely corner look alive.
10. Place Some Candles
Choose your favorite flavor of candles and arrange them on your side table or on a shelf. Light them up when you want to get cosy or to simply lighten up your mood.
