“I Can See Lady Gaga & Katy Perry Wearing My Clothes,” Says Designer Asa Kazingmei
Hailing from Nagaland, Asa Kazingmei made his debut as a Gen Next designer at Lakme Fashion Week 2012. Since then, he has grown into a sought-after designer. Asa’s collections are always a combination of ethnicwear with modern construction. We caught up with the charming artist (who was instantly recognisable thanks to his unique headgear) amid the chaos of LFW Winter/Festive 2014 to ask five quick questions. Here’s what he had to say.
Kazingmei at his LFW stall
1. Your inspiration for this year’s collection?
“My collection is called Changvei, which means protector. I was inspired by the armour worn by the warriors in Nagaland and wanted it to represent the toughness of their shield. Hence the inclusion of a lot of tough leather, rivets and metal studs.”

2. Your favourite Indian and international designer?
” Manish Arora and Alexander McQueen.”
3. A city in the world where you love to shop?
4. An international celebrity you see wearing your creations?
“Lady Gaga, definitely. Also, Katy Perry and anyone else with a quirky sense of style.”

5. A Bollywood celebrity you’d like to see in your garments.
“It’s bit out of her comfort zone, but I’d say Katrina Kaif.”
