Strap Them On: 5 Perfectly Valid Excuses to OD On Belts

Want to keep things up, when everything else is going down in puddles this monsoon? Look no further than belts in all shapes and sizes. Highlight your waist winningly with these buckled beauties─there’s no limit on keeping your most prized accessory well stocked. If you’re not a belt person, there’s no time like now to take a fashion U-turn and revisit your favourite stores for some must-haves. We want you to OD on belts all the way to rehab and this time it’s illegal if you don’t.

So what’s all the hoo-ha about? Let’s get you five notches closer to seeing the belt as your best buy. Allow us to buckle you in.

1. It’s The Quintessential Accessory
It’s the ultimate fashion faux pas to ignore the need for a belt. Always conduct a penny check on your denims or pants beforehand. (If you can drop a penny in there, you need a belt.) Don’t be finicky about adding weight to your look if it means keeping things together. Above all, a good belt should make you feel more confident to step out and stomp your stuff.

2. Belts Bring Out The Best In Your Outfit
Belts are more than just bands─they also cinch the waistline and create curves that are oh-so alluring to the eye. You can take a maxi dress and turn it into a catwalk look just by strapping on a broad under-bust belt. Apply this magic touch even to your casual outfits by tucking a shirt into jeans and adding a solid brown or neutral belt to complete the look. If it’s an office outfit and you want to look sharp, a fine belt is the perfect finishing touch for pencil skirts and pants. Leave the riveted ones at home for night outs and sexier looks.

3. Belts Break The Monotony
If you’re faced with colour monotony, it’s all too easy to break that flow with an off-setting belt. You can even achieve an exciting colour-blocking look with contrasting colours on your belt alone. If it’s flounce you want to handle, try on a loose-rope belt so you can adjust the level of tightness and breathe through it all.

4. Metal Armour Is A Beloved Trend
When Kareena Kapoor Khan stepped up the LBD quotient with a Tom Ford clincher, the metallic trend hit the roof. Other celebrities like Sonam Kapoor and Chitrangda Singh who mirrored her gleaming armour found some of their chicest red carpet looks, too. Chain belts are also in vogue and we highly recommend you hang one in your closet.

5. Everyone Has A Belt Personality
There’s a belt for you out there, no matter what your dressing style. Cut-out belts for the girly-girls, rivets and studs for the laid-back ones, even the simple plaited belts find common ground for all you self-styled divas. If all else fails, knot things up with abandonment.
