Bollywood Loves To Crop

That Bollywood has always been a major source of trend setting for fashion followers all over India is a commonly known fact. All of us love to drool over those Manish Malhotra georgette sarees and dresses, and now even the international brands sported by celebs in the movies.

One of the most popular trends that kicked off in 2013 and is still going strong is the crop top. We’ve all seen it, tried it, and mostly, loved it. So here’s my list of how some Bollywood divas got it ‘damn right!‘ while they were at it; and a few simple tricks decoded for you too.

This lady loves her crop tops. Spotted in this trend before, she sported it at the Filmfare Awards as well. I loved the smokey eyes, the up do and the full length skirt.

With a body like that, it must be tough to walk out of the front door and not get any compliments, right? Anyway, in this particular look of Deepika’s, I love how the skirt goes all the way to the bottom, making the look a little Greek and although the long earrings add that touch of old school, they are the only thing that is not quite right. The Shehlaa Khan motifs are to die for, so there’s no point going over that again, right? Bonus points for putting your thick, full, hair on both sides.

Cutting the length right out at the ankle is a cool way to dress up this spring. The colors, in this case, obviously add to this element too. I love the neutral, tan slippers and the casually tossed hair. I do love how Nishka’s pieces have that casual, loose edge on the hem of the top, which isn’t completely fitted.

Freida Pinto

She definitely qualifies as more of Hollywood than Bollywood with the new accent and all, that’s for sure, but let’s consider her for this one, given her ethnicity. I love the geometric prints and the tropical feel I get when I look at this ensemble. The freshness of the look oozes a summer vibe and I love how it’s maintained with the hair being tossed at the back. Bonus points for the strappy footwear, which completely complement the look, and also add to Pinto’s height.

Sonam Kapoor, Also In Nishka Lulla

Sonam Kapoor, also In Nishka Lulla

No surprises there, when we talk trends and fashion connected with Bollywood, Sonam Kapoor’s name has to come up. With denim being one of the biggest trends to have this season, she’s acing it since much before. The LV bag has us drooling over it anyway, but the metallic kolhapuris have captured our attention. A braid is a great way to keep your hair from getting in the way of the overall look, and yet, keeping it stylish.

There’s nothing I don’t like about this look. The nerd Prada cat-eye shaped glasses, the flat footwear, the polka dotted pants, the crop top (of course) – it’s almost perfectly in sync. Let’s not forget the popping pink lipstick (Impassionate from MAC, is it?) and formal tousled updo either. This one is definitely going on my wall of fashion looks I love.
