Celeb Style Weekly: Cannes Edition
The Cannes International Film Festival 2014 witnessed global stars in their Chanels and Diors walk the red carpet. While their stylists must have worked on their look for weeks, we think it’s only fair to give our take on their outfits. PS: It’s OKAY to be judgemental.
1) Sonam Kapoor
Sonam Kapoor in Elie Saab
The desi fashionista swore her love to Elie Saab by opting for the designer’s couture gown. But did it work on her? We think not. The black number from Elie Saab’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection had an overly gathered skirt that was a bit too much for her body frame.
Sonam Kapoor in Anamika Khanna
However, Sonam’s Indian roots saved her at Cannes. We loved her modified pale pink sari with a tulle yoke, which she wore with an exquisite choker necklace designed by mother Sunita Kapoor.
2) Mallika Sherawat
Mallika Sherawat in Emilio Pucci
While we were expecting a gown that would either look like lingerie or a dead chicken (thanks to her past record on the red carpet), she left us feeling pleasantly surprised. Mallika wore an elegant powder-blue Emilio Pucci lace gown with a peek-a-boo neckline. The sophisticated hairdo only added to her elegant look. We like!
3) Freida Pinto
From L-R: Freida Pinto in Oscar de la Renta and in Michael Kors
The Slumdog Millionaire actress looked fab in a voluminous pink Oscar de la Renta Autumn/Winter 2014 ball gown featuring lamé gold embroidery. But God bless the sheep Michael Kors shredded to create that hideous custom-made white gown for her.
4) Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Roberto Cavalli
While naysayers couldn’t stop talking about how she needs to reduce her post-pregnancy weight ASAP, her red carpet look was enough to put those idlers to rest. Ash looked in sublime shape in her metallic Roberto Cavalli gown. Salon-styled wavy hair and bold red lips added to her glam avatar.
5) Blake Lively
Blake Lively in Gucci
The Gossip Girl wore an elegant Gucci Première monochrome silk crepe gown as she walked the red carpet at Cannes. We love its neat and fuss-free structure. She earlier wore a Gucci chiffon slit gown, which gave her look sexy and sultry. A messy braid completed her flawless look.
6) Jennifer Lawrence
Jennifer Lawrence in Dior
Her tripping-on-the-carpet acts may have become so done-to-death, but her choice of outfits still had the ability to surprise us. J-Law opted for a Dior Black maxi dress, which seemed like a cross between a mini bodycon and swimsuit. The white crop top and skirt by Dior couldn’t save her, either. We couldn’t help wondering if she had mistaken Cannes for a tennis court? Tch Tch!
7) Karlie Kloss
Karlie Kloss in Valentino
Karlie Kloss put her faith in Valentino’s Spring Summer 2014 collection for her red carpet looks. However, we wonder why Valentino gave her a gown made from a South Indian’s white lungi—and another that seemed to be stitched together from their leftover fabrics? Why, oh why, did she wear those willingly?
