8 Celebrities With Beauty AND Brains
Before you start calling us stereotypical and a bigot, let us set the record straight. We recognise that beauty has nothing to do with brains and respect that. However, having seen our fair share of television stereotyping, we think it’s only fair to put up this compilation of celebs who have gone out of their way to create something beyond their acting careers—and actually excelled at it.
1. Ashton Kutcher
This chocolate boy’s abilities go much beyond acting. He is a successful venture capitalist and has worked with companies such as Skype, Foursquare, Airbnb, Path and Fab.com. Recently, Lenovo announced that it has hired Kutcher as its product engineer. Ashton has also been a part of the management team for a tech start-up, Ooma; created Katalyst Media; invested in an Italian restaurant, Dolce; and a Japanese-themed one named Geisha House in Atlanta. This is one smart cookie!
2. Preity Zinta
The bubbly actress has an English Honours and Criminal Psychology degree from St Bede’s College, Simla. She has also invested in the Kings XI Punjab cricket team and seems to be managing it extremely well. We think if she wouldn’t have acted, she could have captured criminals or got a few runs by simply flashing her dimples.
3. Emma Watson
The English actress and her bushy-haired character Hermione Granger share a common love for education. Emma has a degree each from Brown University and the University of Oxford. The next time you’re bored of your books and want to go shopping, think about Ms Watson’s achievements.
4. Ben Affleck
Apart from playing a superhero on screen, Mr Affleck is a saviour for the underprivileged in real life, too. He is involved with various charities such as A-T Children’s Project (which offers aid to children affected by the A-T disease), Feeding America and International Medical Corps. He is also actively involved in solving the humanitarian crisis in Eastern Congo. Besides these, he spends his spare time reading and aiding political movements that aim at uplifting the underprivileged.
5. Matt Damon
Matt is a Harvard dropout and, like other successful college dropouts, he went on to create a niche for himself in Hollywood. He is the founder of H2O Africa Foundation, which saves resources in the Sahara. Additionally, he also represents OneXOne, an organisation that aims to improve lives of children across the globe.
6. Riteish Deshmukh
He may be a complete laugh riot on screen and may have created his fan following by opting for dumbed-down roles, but when it comes to education Riteish Deshmukh was pretty serious. He has an architectural degree from Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute and has worked with a foreign architectural firm for more than a year. While his acting skills have grown with every movie, he creative side is not far behind. He now owns ‘Evolutions’, an architecture and interior design firm.
7. R Madhavan
He is an actor, writer, TV host and film producer—but his multi-tasking habits go way back. Madhavan graduated in Electronics from Rajaram College, Kolhapur, as well as trained with the army, navy and the air force, winning the Maharashtra Best Cadet title along the way. He has also won the Indian Championship for Public Speaking and represented India at the Young Businessmen Conference in Tokyo, Japan. Phew!
8. George Clooney
A straight-A student in school and college, Clooney majored in Broadcast Journalism at the Northern Kentucky University. Besides acting, he has actively pursued his love for journalism and worked on several social issues. A classic example would be his contributions to Darfur. He went to Chad and Sudan with his father and made a documentary called A Journey to Darfur, which talks about the situation of the Sudanese region’s many refugees. We love how he combines his love for reporting and filmmaking!
