The Week That Was: 12th to 19th Jan
This week had a fair share of glamour and gloom. And I’m not really sure what to start with, so let’s just go chronologically, shall we? Here is your dose of celebrity gossip, news and more in the week that was.
Awards and Rewards
The Golden Globe Awards saw the first star studded red carpet of the year 2014. While the fashion police was busy pronouncing their judgements on the hits and misses, what we were so so thrilled about was Leo taking the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, for his role in The Wolf of Wall Street. The last time he won this award was for his role in The Aviator. The SAG was however, won by Matthew McConaughey for Dallas Buyers Club. Oh well!
Leo’s been nominated for the Oscar for Actor in a leading role. You know who we’re cheering for.
A Grammy Treat
If you haven’t heard about it already, and are a Beatles fan, get ready to rejoice as Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, the only surviving members of the iconic band, are set to perform at the Grammy Awards on Jan 26 2014. Just another reason we wish the weekend would hurry up and come back!
Drugs at Bieber’s Mansion
Worry not, so far the cops say that Bieber was “not connected” to the drugs that were found after a raid post a vicious egg attack on Justin Bieber’s neighbour’s home in LA. Cops have reportedly arrested his buddy Lil Za. But looks like there is going to be further investigation into the egg attack, which resulted in damages. Sounds like a bad teen flick, doesn’t it?
After all the trouble in Australia and Argentina, we really hope that the pop singer was “not connected” to the vandalism either. Also, our takeaway and a reminder – SAY NO TO DRUGS.
Jadu ki Jhappi?
Oh, yes! We’re sure KJo wept as SRK and Salman hugged it out at the Star Guild Awards 2014. After Salman candidly spoke about their last hug *because it was Ramadan* when he was being grilled as he enjoyed a cuppa on Koffee with Karan, these signs of bromance between the two big Khans is a welcome treat for their fans and well wishers. C’mon guys, forget the chhoti baatein and be friends again?
Goodbye, Suchitra Sen
The beautiful and elegant Bengali actress who won hearts all over the country, passed away on Jan 17th at the age of 82. One of her most popular films was Aandhi (1975). Even if you haven’t watched the movie, we’re sure you’ve heard the golden oldie Tere bina zindagi se from the film. She was highly acclaimed for her contribution to cinema and will be missed by her family, friends and fans alike. Her legacy lives on in her grand daughters Raima and Riya Sen.
The shocking demise of Sunanda Pushkar Tharoor
We have still not digested this. And we certainly find it difficult to attribute the mysterious death of Sunanda Pushkar (wife of Union Cabinet Minister Shashi Tharoor) to a Twitter war or a domestic spat. Famous for being the glamourous politician wife and socialite, now found dead at a luxury hotel in Delhi, her macabre end is being continuously speculated by the media for the last two days. We hope that for her and for the sake of family she has left behind, her death is investigated properly and she receives justice. RIP Sunanda.
We just could not end on such a gloomy note, so here is a tidbit from the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2014.
With nearly 40,000 runners participating across all races, the city was up bright and early this Sunday morning. While we cheered on our friends and family who were running the race, what we simply loved seeing was our RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan taking a break from all that intense staring and economics, and participating in the marathon as well. Kudos! We hope to see many of our political leaders and bureaucrats get inspired. (Did we just hear Shobhaa De sigh?)
And that folks, wraps our weekly update. Hope you have a brilliant week ahead.
