About the art and the artist
Known for his witticism and satirical takes on the secular, mythological and the historical,Kamath revels in his humorous interpretations of the socially confirmed narratives, whilealways underlining the deeper sense of poetry and philosophy of life. He is famed for hisproficiency in a variety of media including canvas (acrylic paintings), paper (water coloursand drawings), video (animation, claymation), sculpture (fibreglass, wood, brick) and digitalmedium (re-construction of photographic events).
This body of work, titled Collective Nouns, is the aggregate of Kamath’s distinctive imageryrich with the narratives of everyday life, interwoven with mythologies and intimate stories. Hisspecially stylised backgrounds are overlaid with earthy slabs, making them reminiscent ofdecaying walls and rusted surfaces. They create a camouflage on the canvas lyingunderneath to directly reference to the indigenous human habit of lying.
Kamath has participated in numerousgroup exhibitions such as Roots, 25th Anniversary Exhibition of Sakshi Gallery, Chennai;Indian (Sub)Way, Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi & Grosvenor Vadehra, London, UK; If IWere A Saint, Travancore Gallery, New Delhi; Telling It Like It Is, The Indian Story, GalleryCork Street, London; and Hybrid Trends, Hangaram Museum, Korea. He was also recentlyselected to participate in DIGIFESTA at the Gwangju City Museum, Gwangju Biennale Hall;and The Fantastic Garden, Changwon Art Festival.
