What are the coolest hair colour trends to watch out for in 2014-15?
“The coolest hair colouring technique right now is definitely the shadow effect, which starts off with dark roots and gets lighter as the hair progresses. Some of the main trends are: ombré, with darker roots and lighter progression; Balayage hair colour, which is hand-painted to give a natural look; dip dye, where, as the name suggests, the tips of the hair are dyed for a striking effect; and bright hues in cherry plums, midnight blue and pink explosion.”

Please give us tips on how best to take care of coloured hair.
“Colour-safe shampoos, conditioners and leave-in conditioners or serums are a great way to maintain radiance and moisture in the hair. They also help in prolonging the life of the colour and tones.”

What colours would you recommend for a dusky skin tone?
“Shades like velvety soft plums, chocolatey cappuccinos and muted caramels tend to brighten dusky skin tones. At BBLUNT, we take our clients through a colour consultation which is personalised by the Colour Me Beautiful concept. This helps our colourists determine the suitability of the client by taking into consideration their skin tone, eye colours, preferred makeup, what kind of jewellery they wear and the clothes they usually don.”

Name your favourite hair colourist in India and Abroad.
“In India, undoubtedly, my pick is Adhuna Akhtar. Abroad, I would have to go with Jo Hansford. [Jo is a celebrity hairdresser, who has been in the industry for more than two decades. She runs an eponymous business with clients including Duchess of Cornwall, Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie]”

What colour would you recommend for a newbie looking to experiment?
‘Newbies can try a soft introduction of dual reflective colours or they can experiment with panels, flashes or bright funky colours. This again is designed according to the Colour Me Beautiful concept, which depends on the client’s personality, lifestyle and age.”

Any alternative you would suggest for permanent hair colouring?
“An alternative to permanent hair colouring is temporary colouring, which will last till the next time you shampoo your hair.”

Which Indian celebrity do you think pulls off coloured hair particularly well?
“Many celebrities such as Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor pull off this trend very well.”
