A NEW Bollywood Fashion Store by Yash Raj Opens Its Doors in Mumbai
Whether it’s Sridevi’s flowy, monotone saris from Chandani or Kajol’s green lehenga from DDLJ, we can’t help but love the sartorial styles of Yash Raj heroines. Not only are they trendsetters in themselves, but also an inspiration for Bollywood fans and fashionable women.
Bringing you the best of both worlds is Diva’ni, a fantastic label that brings Bollywood fashion to you. We spoke to designers Anjali Dongre and Parineeti Saluja to give us a few tips on being filmy yet fashionable. Here’s what they have to say:
1. Could you suggest a few quintessential pieces that define the Yash Raj lady? And where can we wear them?
“Saris are our eternal favourite and a must-have for every woman’s wardrobe. A sari completes the look of every woman on any occasion, making her feel like a diva. The flowy fabrics with soft colours, reflected in our Spring/Summer 2014 collection, are the ideal Yash Raj lady look.”
2. How can we get the diva-esque look everyday—at work or in college?
“Every woman is a diva in herself—you just need the confidence to carry the best in you! In summer, every woman wants to look very chic and at the same time feel comfortable in what she is wearing. For this, we at Diva’ni recommend that one should wear breathable outfits such as palazzos, jumpsuits, cigarette pants or even hot pants. You can also add colours to your look by styling it with funky scarves.”
3. How can we create a designer look with the outfits that we already have?
“a. Saris: Style your hand-painted and chiffon saris with a corset and traditional heavy saris with ‘koti’.
b. Palazzo pants: Wear them with a tank top and cool summer print scarf.
c. Salwaar kameez/Anarkali: Accessorise with statement earrings.
d. Shorts and skirts: Short summer tops will be the perfect choice.
e. Crop tops: Pair with maxi skirts and neckpieces.
4. I want to be a Bollywood bride. Can you put together a look for me?”
“To be an ideal Yash Raj bride, we suggest two stunning lehengas from our collection— the Ivory Gotta Patti Lotus lehenga and the Green Fish Scale lehenga.”
5. The flowy saris are classic YRF. Can you tell us a bit about the hand-painted saris collection?
“The hand-painted saris in our collection are French Canvas Art. This is a bespoke technique by Diva’ni, where every stroke is unique and cannot be replicated, making every product one of a kind. Each sari is hand-painted with pure Ganga water and natural paints. It’s an abstract expression of art and nature. Each design is unique in its own way as the same strokes cannot be replicated. The artist tries different techniques like thumb or colour blowing techniques each time to obtain the right texture and feel.”
6. Quick questions:
a. Sari or gown: Sari
b. Net or silk: Silk
c. Statement earrings or necklace: Statement earrings
d. Monotone, monochrome or colour block: Monochrome
e. Patiala-style salwaar kameez or anarkali: Anarkali
