The Party Girl’s Guide To Losing Weight
Drinking and partying sounds like the absolute contradiction to weight loss efforts. But no, you don’t need to switch off your phone and go into hibernation till you’ve achieved your weight loss goal. In fact, these tips are a great idea to follow even if you’re not looking to lose weight; they’re a healthy, smart and sensible way to party.
1. Portion Control
The meaning of one drink differs from one alcohol to another. For example, a can or pint of beer is a lot larger than a glass of wine which is still larger than a peg of spirit. The portions in cocktails vary from one bar to another, depending on the way they serve it. Always choose smaller ones. Give yourself a limit and stick to it.
2. Cut The Carbs
Skipping bread through the week is pointless if you’re going to knock back beers on the weekend. Wine may have a little less, but vodka and club soda are carb-free (now you know why it’s the drink of choice for so many models).
3. Nix The Mixers
Colourful, synthetic, loaded with sugar—mixers are probably the largest culprits when it comes to getting you to pile on the pounds. Ditch the ultra-sweet umbrella drinks or colas and opt for healthier options with fresh fruit juice—or just go on the rocks with some herbs and fruit slices.
4. Don’t Munch The Junk
You’re at a bar or a party and there are plates of pop-in-your-mouth fried appetisers just sitting in front of you. Before you know it, you’ve polished off half the plate. Or you’re tottering home and a quick drive by has you gobbling up oily rolls and wraps that you wouldn’t touch when sober. While it is smart to eat before or while you drink, choose healthy foods such as salads and raw veggies with dips.
Treat the impending night as a reward for behaving yourself through the day. Eat a healthy breakfast and light lunch, go for a walk, take the stairs, don’t skip the gym. Whatever you’re doing, do a little more in anticipation and you’ll feel a lot less guilty, therefore less liable to lose control when you finally do go drinking.
