Emmy Awards 2014: How Your Favourite TV Stars Fared In The Style Stakes
Drama, suspense and excitement was all part of the 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, that took place in Los Angeles on Monday night. The big winners, unsurprisingly, were Breaking Bad and Modern Family. Since the Emmys are considered the Oscars of the small screen, the stars come dressed accordingly, with women choosing designer gowns and men decked up in some killer tuxedos. This year, there were a few surprising (in a good way) fashion outcomes. Comedian Amy Poehler, of Parks & Recreation, looked elegant and lady-like in a silver Theia gown, Zooey Deschanel was radiant in a bright pink Oscar de la Renta and Sarah Silverman wore a stunning, cleavage-bearing Marni gown. However, with the good comes the bad and the worst dressed was definitely the quirky Lena Dunham in a repelling Giambattista Valli creation. We know that your favourite shows won on stage, but did their stars do justice to them in the style stakes? Read on to know more.
1. Modern Family
The hilarious ladies of the show sure know how to mix crazy humour with fashion that makes them look like a million bucks. Sarah Hyland, who plays the teenage daughter Haley, is clearly all grown up now. The 23-year-old actress tried an unconventional two-piece dress, custom-made for her by Christian Siriano. Sofia, Sofia, Sofia—you just can’t ever go wrong, no matter what you wear. The sexy Latina turned up the heat in a white strapless Roberto Cavalli gown, while Julie Bowen opted to keep it simple in a floral printed halter dress by Peter Som. Keep making us laugh, ladies—we love you for it!

2. Game Of Thrones
The feisty women of the Game Of Thrones series kept their looks simple yet sexy, with the colour palette saying orange is the new black. Lena Headey (Cersei) looked stunning (not that she has to try too hard) in a Robin Singer one-shouldered dress, while Natalie Dormer showed off her stunning figure in an orange-and-black J Mendel mermaid gown—we bet King Joffrey would be drooling. Sibel Kekilli kept it chic in a monotone red dress from Vio—these women sure know how to kill with their looks.

3. Orange Is The New Black
The beautiful, mostly female cast of the Orange Is The New Black series looked nothing like their on-screen characters. The women traded in their orange jumpsuits for elegant and sophisticated gowns. Laverne Cox looks jaw-droppingly gorgeous in a white Marc Bouwer dress. Taylor Schilling described her Zuhair Murad vintage dress as timeless, and we totally agree. Samira Wiley went bold in a canary yellow Christian Siriano creation and was one of the best dressed of the night.

4. Mad Men
The cast of this show is always well-dressed, whether they are on- or off-screen. January Jones, one of the leading fashion icons on the small screen, looked beautiful in a red Prabal Gurung gown. Curvaceous actress Christina Hendricks opted for a Marchesa creation in red and was ravishing as ever, while Jessica Pare stuck to the classic black in a strapless Lanvin dress. Who needs men when these ladies can work the magic all by themselves?

5. Big Bang Theory
Playing smart women on-screen (except for Penny), the BBT ladies were dressed to the nines in their chic gowns. Kaley opted for a Monique Lhuillier pink-and-red creation, while both Mayim Bialik (in an Oliver Talentino) and Melissa Rauch (in Pamella Roland) went for blue as the colour of the night. After all, you know what they say—brainy is the new sexy.

The Emmys saw a lot of other famous stars in attendance, whose looks we loved so much that we had to include them in our list. Halle Berry, who stars in a new action drama series, Extant, showed off her gorgeous body in an Elie Saab chiffon dress. Padma Lakshmi, our favourite host and judge on the always entertaining Top Chef, opted for an angelic, all-white Ralph Rucci gown. Heavily pregnant Hayden Panettiere, who accidentally revealed she is going to have a baby girl, was glowing in a silver Lorena Sarbu gown. We think pregnancy agrees with the Nashville star. Julia Roberts was all smiles and legs, in a short and beaded Elie Saab frock.
