The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

Second in the series that are a prequel to Jackson's trilogy of LOTR, join the dwarves on their quest to get their gold back from Dragon Smaug. After having successfully escaped the Misty Mountains and secured the One Ring, wonder what adventures they have on their hands this time around!

The Counselor
Director: Ridley Scott
Cast: Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem
A lawyer caught on the other side of the law? This movie will definitely spawn a barrage of lawyer jokes. Sounding too much like a Michael Connelly novel, this movie follows a lawyer who gets involved in drug trafficking.

Knight of Cups
Director: Terence Malick
Cast: Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett, Teresa Palmer
About the Los Angeles movie business, this movie might give us a peek into the dark side of the glitz world! Sounding powerfully ominous with 'A man, temptations, celebrity and excess', this movie should be cinematic perfection. Expect stunning cinematography, music that lingers on teamed with a good sense of narratives and emotions, if Malick's earlier track record is to be any sign.

The Lone Ranger
Director: Gore Verbinski
Cast: Johny Depp, Armie Hammer, Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner
A Native American Spirit and a man of the law. A narrator and a legend of justice. Both heroes. And a fight against greed and corruption. Wow.

World War Z
Director: Marc Forster
Cast: Brad Pitt, Mirielle Enos, David Morse, James Badge Dale
Zombies, the most fascinating monsters of all, strike as a pandemic on post-apocalyptic earth. Watch Brad Pitt as he turns into a nerdy UN employee and a scientist (?) who travels the world to find a cure to this pressing problem.

Trance
Director: Danny Boyle
Cast: James McAvoy, Rosario Dawson, Vincent Chassel, Tuppence Middleton
Fine Art. Crime. Hypnotherapy. This movie might just reel you in (pun intended) as the quest to recover a lost painting begins and ends as the boundaries between desire and reality begin to blur.

Man of Steel
Director: Zack Snyder
Cast: Russel Crowe, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Henry Cavill
Superman is back and how! A 3d movie by Christopher Nolan with Henry Cavill (!) in the title role! Can life get any better?

Star Trek Into Darkness
Director: J.J Abrams
Cast: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldanha, Bendict Cumberbatch
The fact that this is the twelfth wonder in the Star Trek series shows just how brilliantly etched the movies are. Captain Kirk and his U.S.S Enterprise crew is unsurprisingly made to rescue us and Starfleet. And settle an old score, but this time with a seemingly unstoppable force, within their own organization.

Iron Man 3
Director: Shane Black
Cast: Robert Downy Jr., Guy Pearce, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle
The answer to the question, "Does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?" is finally here. Watch as Tony Stark faces off with Mandarin, an enemy whose reach knows no bounds; but mostly watch as Robert Downey Jr. returns to his flamboyant and fanciful character!

Oz The Great and Powerful
Director: Sam Raimi
Cast: James Franco, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis
Breaking tradition, this movie is set before the 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz. Magic glitter makes this movie a must watch. The catch of the movie you ask? Three beautiful women, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams turn into witches. What remains to be seen is if they are good or evil!

Fast and Furious 6
Director: Justin Lin
Cast: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez
Creating a brand that is all their own, this movie moves away from the underground car racing theme of the previous films. Making a comeback with an interesting twist in the tale, professional criminal Dominic Toretto and his crew join hands with Diplomatic Security Service to take down a criminal mastermind. And guess who the second-in-command of this lethal, mercenary organization is? Dominic's thought-dead lover, Letty Ortiz! Talk about DRAMA.

The Hangover III
Director: Todd Phillips
Cast: Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, Mellisa McCarthy
Not much is known about this movie, but then we don't need to, to predict that this one will be bizzarely funny. Sources claim that there is no wedding and there is no bachelor party in this one. That this movie marks the end to the series makes us extremely sad.

After Earth
Director: M. Night Shyamalan
Cast: Will Smith, Jaden Smith, Isabelle Fuhrman, Sophie Okonedo
Another post-apocalyptic movie with a twist, After Earth brings together the coolest father-son duo of Will and Jaden Smith after Pursuit of Happyness. Expect an 'I am Legend'ish movie, but with fascinating cinematography, featuring evolved animal species and an unstoppable alien creature!

The Wolverine
Director: James Mangold
Cast: Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Tao Okomato, Brian Tee
For all you action junkies, The Wolverine brings to you the sixth installment in the X-Men film series. As aggressively steamy as ever, Hugh Jackman reprises his role as the title character to train with a Samurai warrior and engages in a fight with a mysterious figure from his past!

Kane and Lynch
Director: F. Gary Gray
Cast: Bruce Willis, Jamie Fox, Jon Lovitz
Spawned from a video game, Kane and Lynch may be one of the deadliest combinations there is. One a mercenary and the other a schizophrenic, both of them on death rows and are a couple of fugitives, who team up to retrieve a stolen fortune.

Thor: the Dark World

Cast: Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christopher Eccleston, Anthony Hopkins
A mysterious enemy older than the universe itself sounds ominous. But why worry when Thor is here, right? Even Odin and Asgard cannot help him with this one. Facing an enemy out for carnal revenge, will Thor have to make the ultimate sacrifice?

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Is a rebellion simmering beneath the victory chants? The second instalment in The Hunger Games trilogy, the President is on his way to preparing the 75th Annual Hunger Games, a competition that could change Panem forever.

300: Rise of an Empire

Cast: Sullivan Stapleton, Rodrigo Santoro, Eva Green, Jack O'Connell
A prequel to the widely critically acclaimed film 300, this one focuses on General Themistocles and The Battle of Artemisium. For all you history buffs, this one also promises to cover the background of Xerxes and explain how he became 'The God King'. Here's hoping that this too would enthral us with its cinematography and art direction as did its prequel. Or should we say sequel!

Now You See Me
Director: Louis Leterrier
Cast: Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman
A magic super-group that performs high-tech magic shows, involving illusionism and hypnotism is at the centre of this thriller-drama. They rob banks and criminals and astonishingly enough, transfer the funds into their viewer's bank accounts! Sounds suspicious? Watch this movie to rid yourself of the curiosity that overtakes the moment you read this plot!

Winter's Tale
Director: Akiva Goldsman
Cast: Will Smith, Russel Crowe, Colin Farrell, Matt Bomer
What would a thief, a dying girl and a flying white horse possibly have in common? This movie promises to do the explaining even as it tries to patch a 19th century set up with present day Manhattan. A fantasy story doing that sounds interesting enough; add to this the cherry that is Matt Bomer!

With an impressive line-up such as this, how can the Indian film industry be left far behind? Making it to the flicks we pick for this year are Once Upon a Time in Mumbai 2, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Phata Poster Nikla Hero, Gunday, Satyagraha – Democracy under fire, Krrish 3, Ram Leela, Dhoom 3, Shootout at Wadala, Chennai Express.
