A Fashionable Weekend at the Derby
While someone new to derby events would go expecting only horses and serious betting, a derby regular would know that it’s a time of exuberance and glamour. A weekend of winning and losing money, of watching lightning fast horses catch up- McDowell’s Signature Indian Derby 2014 were two days of unlimited visual delight. As the high profile ladies walked down the green carpet of Race course, high fashion is bound to follow.
Fashion Shows: Swapnil Shinde and Falguni & Shane Peacock
India’s acclaimed fashion designer Swapnil Shinde exhibited his collection, “And the award goes to…” at the Hanger, a carnival like venue at the Race Course. His collection included couture gowns and also midi length skater dresses in pastels as well as darker shades. The silhouettes were voluminous and charming.
Falguni and Shane Peacock presented their Luxury Cruise 2014 collection on the final day of the derby wherein Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon were her show stoppers. Crop tops and jackets, shorts, maxi dresses and body suits dominated the ramp. Akshay was sporting his new stubble, which has been trending in his fan base on social media.
Pop up Stalls
Apart from buying tickets, one could buy and own a number of chic items. Delna Poonawala’s hats and bags were a sight as all the ladies flocked to try on one or two. And Pipa + Bella set up a pretty show with their colorful accessories. So, in case you forget your hat or that matching necklace at home, no worries for you could still look pick something up at the derby!
As winter is almost gone now, it’s a good time to pick up spring trends to stay abreast in the fashion circuit. The stunner of the event was Shamita Shetty, slim and pretty in a radiant orchid sheath dress with 3D floral appliqués around the neck. She wore a black hat and aviators as she walked around in her wedges.
Another trend to watch out for was stripes, especially if they were black and white. Florals were predominant at the event and they came in all shapes, colors and sizes.
Signature Indian Derby 2014 was high on oomph factor as the ladies dressed in the trendiest best outfits grooved to the music, cheered the horses and took some time out for a nice cupcake!
