Fitness Food: Top 5 Pre-Workout Foods

You don’t want to let your hard work go for a toss by eating or drinking things that won’t make you feel great about yourself. Pop in these top 5 super foods that will give you power as you go through your tough sweat session and leave you ready for more.

1.     Banana and peanut butter

You can just dip about anything in peanut butter, but bananas are the way to go when you need that extra energy for a workout. They are rich in potassium, and are essential mineral that replaces the lost energy while breaking a sweat. If you do not love peanut butter (that’s really a crime!) then you can definitely avoid it, but having a banana is a must-have.

2.     Coconut water

It is definitely overpowered by the sheer number of smoothies, shakes and juices out there. Coconut water has earned itself the title of “Nature’s Gatorade”. Rich in potassium that helps in reducing muscle sore, cramps and keeps your body hydrated as you lose high amounts of water and salt during your workout in the form of sweat.

3.     Oatmeal

Yeah, you may not like this one but you can liven up a bowl of hot oatmeal cereal by garnishing it with your favorite fruits, like berries or bananas for natural energy boosting sugars. Avoid the ones that come with extra sugar or processed fruits, they don’t serve the purpose.

4.     Nuts and seeds

Eating some nuts and seeds before a workout helps you cover all your macro nutrient basics i.e. carbs, proteins and fat. Eating a few nuts before your grueling workout sessions can also provide a boost of energy to keep you going.

5.     Yogurt

Curd or dahi contains calcium with high amount of proteins and a bit of natural sugar present in small quantities. As it is easy on the stomach and the digestive system, it’s a great option to consume this before a workout. Don’t like it plain? Add whole grain cereals, fruit or honey which will give you an added energy boost. Although, we recommend you go natural, you can also try flavoured yogurt as they are now easily available in your favorite flavours.
