India Couture Week 2014: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Even though India Couture Week 2014 happened last week, we still can’t get over some of the breathtakingly beautiful designs on display, from Manish Malhotra’s exquisite lehengas to Gaurav Gupta’s glamorous gowns. However, a fashion show in India would not be complete without (a few) stars making an appearance and we wanted to recap some of the celebrity looks. Here’s a list of those that were good, bad and those we think should’ve skipped the show altogether.

The Good
The ladies of Bollywood took the spotlight in many shows. From Rani Mukerji, who glowed in fellow Bengali Sabyasachi’s creation, and Alia Bhatt, who looked like the cute Indian princess that she is, to the ravishing  Bipasha Basu who was part of the closing ceremony, wearing a bridal lehenga by Rohit Bal. Chitrangda Singh and Shraddha Kapoor also looked magnificent in their dazzling attire.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the men putting their best fashion feet forward. Rahul Khanna looked dapper in a well-fitted, stylish outfit. Who doesn’t love a man in a good suit? Virender Sehwag, who is a rare sighting at fashion events, looked very handsome in his all-black, ‘neta-esque’ ensemble.

The Bad
Miss India 2014 Koyal Rana’s golden gown and nude pumps do absolutely nothing to highlight her beauty. Her outfit is bordering on boring. We think a bit of  jewellery might have helped. The dress that Ramola Bachchan is wearing looks very unflattering. She could have tried harder; after all, she is attending a fashion show and not a brunch with her girlfriends. Kalyani Chawla disappoints with her look. We don’t hate the dress, but the earrings and the makeup are particularly off-putting. We expected more from this usually impeccably dressed lady.

The Ugly
Shahnaz Husain’s look is loud to the point of screaming; with the hair and makeup and  layers of scarves and the gold just adding to the chaos. As for Manav Gangwani, my grandmother called; she wants her house slippers back. I know you are a sought-after designer, but pink velvet loafers? Really?!! Rohit Verma’s collection gave me a shock that I am still reeling from. He took tacky to a whole new level with this one.
