Smile Like Anne Hathaway: 5 Home Remedies To Whiten Your Teeth

They say a smile is the most important thing to wear when you dress up—it lights up your face and adds life to your eyes. But your yellowish and stained teeth may be preventing from getting that perfect, movie-star smile. And unlike celebs you don’t have a fortune to spend on whitening your teeth. But we’ve made things simpler for you—here are five home remedies that will help brighten and lighten your teeth.

1. Fruit Peels
This one is simple and inexpensive. Have leftover oranges or bananas at home? Before throwing off their peels, rub it thoroughly on your teeth. Orange and banana peels have natural bleaching properties that remove the dirt from the surface of your teeth and keep them clean. Do this for three to five minutes, both on the inner and outer side of your teeth. Avoid doing it more than three times a week, though, as the fruit acid may ruin your natural teeth enamel.

2. Strawberries
These little pink berries not only look and taste good, but are also great for teeth whitening. All you need to do is crush a couple of them with a spoon and apply on your teeth for two to three minutes. Avoid touching your tongue to the teeth, else you might wipe it off. Strawberries have enzymes that clear out your teeth and keep them free from bacteria, too.

3. Lemon Peel And Juice
Lemon is known as a natural bleach agent as it has high levels of acid, and is used on the skin to lighten marks. Mix a bit of lemon juice with equal parts of water. Then take the lemon peel, dip it in the mixture and rub on your teeth for one or two minutes. However, ensure that you don’t do this more than twice a week as it can get too acidic for your teeth and destroy the natural enamel.

4. Baking Soda
Most whitening toothpastes have baking soda, so you can use it yourself, too. Mix a pinch of salt with half a teaspoon baking soda and rub on your teeth with your fingers or a brush. Rinse your mouth and get bright teeth instantly. Don’t do this more than twice a week, though.

5. Oil Pulling
This is a new technique that’s recommended by doctors. All you need to do is take a spoonful of sesame oil or sunflower oil and swirl it around your mouth for 15 to 20 minutes. While this can be a bit tedious, it offers guaranteed results in 10 to 15 days. This process cleans your mouth and keeps it free of germs. Do this at least thrice a week.
