InOnIt Guides: Wine Bars in Mumbai

Jesus turned water into wine. And I know you wish for the same superpower. While that seems unlikely in the near future, we rounded up some of the wine bars Mumbai has to offer. Here you can drink to your heart’s content, while forgetting about a recent failure in the acquiring of a particular superpower.

Vinoteca by Sula

This place might be the only place in Mumbai with a more extensive wine menu than the food menu. A level up from the wine bars that we are used to in the city, Vinoteca by Sula has some great Tapas and Pintxos. They also have a very friendly and attentive staff, who will answer your questions since the menu is a mini lesson in Spanish. What’s more? They also have a specially crafted wine tasting flight as the perfect opportunity to sample and compare wines for wine novices and wine sommeliers alike.

What can we probably say about the fine-dine in downtown Colaba that has won possibly every award for food in this country. Indigo’s Sunday brunches, with a live jazz band and free flowing liquor are what legends, or should we say Mumbai socialites are made of. A little on the expensive side, this is made up for, by their unheard of variety of food. But you know what else they are known for? Their best stand-alone wine list in Mumbai.

Le Patio

Seldom do you come across a restaurant that you, your friends and your family are always speaking well of. A rooftop restaurant…umm, enough said? Well, it just might be, but I, for one can’t stop raving about their ambience or more specifically, the vibe that you get in this cosy, well lit place with delicious food. Le Patio is just right to binge on their rich, wide variety of wines coming from India, Spain, Italy, France and even Chile.

Aromas Cafe

Yes, yes, I know, Aroma’s Cafe can’t exactly be called a wine bar since it is, well, a cafe. But what do you do when you have a sudden craving for wine and a debate on the kind of wine seems unnecessary? OTS bookings at busy restaurants will be impossible and you will worry about how under-dressed you are for some of the more swanky places. Aromas Cafe it is then. They have a decent variety of wine that includes some reds and whites from India, Australia, New Zealand and Argentina that should help you get through your evening of distress.

Cafe Mangii

Just the other day, one of my couple friends couldn’t stop raving and raving about their Penne Romana. It got to a point where we had to go eat Pasta at a local place since getting to Powai would’ve been a b!@*h in this monsoon. So there you have it my friends, this place serves pastas and wood-fired pizzas and Jalapeno poppers that will leave a mark on your tastebuds. Their wine cellar too, is an envy of many. Ranging from international to domestic, they have champagnes, sparkling wines, red, whites and rose wines too. (Finally!)

The Tasting Room

A place frequented by the swish set of the city, this place in Raghuvanshi Mills, derives its charm from being a mill compound convert. Although getting their is part of the trick, once at The Tasting Room you will be blown away by their sheer list of wines. Dry, sparkling, red, white, rose, you name it, and they have it. With some cutesy cubes of cheese and pineapple accompanying your wine, you will have a restful evening with scrumptious food to go along with it.

The Den

Bandra’s first exclusive wine bar, The Den famous for its Continental cuisine, reopened its doors last December, with an all new look along with a mix of American and European cuisines too. A pub more than a club, this place is perfect for a large group, as unlike the other places, you are allowed to have boisterous fun to accompany the loud, energetic music that is played here. Very reasonably priced, their wine list is pretty decent and includes domestic varieties along with wines from South Africa, California, Argentina, Australia, Italy and France.

Cafe Ivy Bar and Bistro

Wine, wine everywhere is how you describe Ivy the best. If you aspire to be something of a wine expert then Ivy is the place to be, where you will get to sample wines from many walks of life at prices that unbelievable, in a good way. A delightful place, the good ambience, the pastas, salads and other Italian fare is perfect company to the glasses of Chantilli Sauvignon Blanc and Chantilli Merlot that you will enjoy here.
