Saving Face
Oscar Winning Tale On Survivors Of Acid Attacks
Asia Society in association with NCPA will be hosting the Indian premiere of the 2012 Academy Award winning documentary, Saving Face.
The documentary focuses on the bitter truth of the lives of the victims of acid attacks in Pakistan. Saving Face follows the stories of several survivors and their fight for justice. The documentary also narrates the tale of Dr. Mohammad Jawad, a plastic surgeon from London who leaves his practice in the U.K and returns to his home country to help those victimized by brutal acid attacks.
Saving Face recounts the story of Zakia, a 39 year old woman and 23 year old Rukhsana who were attacked by their husbands. These women were supported by NGOs, policymakers and skilled doctors who helped them restore their lives as they came to terms with the scars etched in their lives both physically and emotionally.
Saving Face is directed by an Emmy and Academy Award winning director, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and Daniel Junge. The documentary will be screened at Experminetal Theatre, NCPA at 6:30 pm which will be followed by a discussion with filmmaker, Kiran Rao.
