Get Flawless Skin: 8 Natural Ways To Lighten Scars and Marks

It’s bad enough that you have to deal with acne, strict diets and rigorous exercises. But that’s not all—you also have to face the post-acne scars, stretch marks from sudden weight loss and, of course, age spots. There are many chemical and professional treatments that you can try to hide these marks, but they can burn a hole in your pocket. So if the marks are not too bad, you can try the following home remedies.

lighten scars

1. Lemon
Lemon is known to have natural bleaching properties, so applying it every day can lighten your skin. Take fresh lemon juice and apply it on your scars with your fingers or cotton balls. Let it rest for 10 to 15 minutes and wash with water. This is ideal for normal or oily skin, so avoid it if your skin is too dry or sensitive.

2. Cucumber
Cucumbers are often used to lighten dark circles and can be used for your scars, too. It contains about 90 percent water and helps hydrate your skin externally. Crush the cucumber without its seeds and make a paste. Use this paste on the marks for 10 to 15 minutes everyday and see them lighten over time. Cucumber paste can be used by almost all skin types.

3. Tomato
Just like lemon, tomato also has bleaching properties. So you can use a slice of raw tomato and rub it on your skin for five to 10 minutes everyday. Since it is not as harsh as a lemon, this is ideal for sensitive or dry skin.

4. Sandalwood And Rosewater
Sandalwood is cooling for the skin and helps kill bacteria around your acne. Mix sandalwood paste with rosewater as it is gentle on your skin and apply for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse with water to clean. This paste is ideal for fresh acne marks as compared to the old ones; but ensure that you buy original sandalwood paste only.

5. Yoghurt
The natural acids present in yoghurt are just right to lighten your scars and marks. Use homemade curd and apply on your scars for five to 10 minutes every day. However, if you have sensitive skin, apply a light layer every alternate day instead of everyday.

6. Gram Flour And Turmeric
Your grandmother’s tricks actually work. Take a teaspoon of gram flour (besan), a pinch of turmeric (haldi) and mix with lemon juice. Use rosewater instead of lemon juice if you have sensitive skin. Apply this paste on the problem area for 15 to 20 minutes every day. Turmeric will lighten as well as heal your skin and gram flour will scrub the excess dirt and clear your skin.

7. Baking Soda
Baking soda has great exfoliating properties. The coarse but gentle granules scrub the dead skin layer off your skin and the new healthy skin helps lighten the scars. Use a teaspoon of baking soda and make a paste with water. Gently rub on the scars for one or two minutes and rinse with water. (Do not apply for more than two minutes.) It is ideal for almost all skin types.

8. Olive Oil
Often some stretch marks or acne spots occur purely due to lack of moisture in the skin to heal itself. Olive oil is light compared to other oils and thus is ideal for beauty uses. Apply a tinge of oil around the dark spots and scars overnight. If you have oily skin, avoid this method; or only apply for 30 to 40 minutes, then rinse with water.

We’re sure these tips will help you get a flawless skin. Do share if you have more to add to the list.
