A Pen Made For Women? What! Watch Ellen DeGeneres’ Reaction
Crossing the line to complete banality, American stationery company BIC came out with a BIC For Her range, with pink and purple pens created especially for women. Yes, that’s right! Features of the pen include ‘an elegant design just for her’ and ‘a thin barrel to fit a woman’s hand’. Available for sale on Amazon, the pens have invited some priceless responses from ‘customers’.
Reviewer Tracy Hamilton: Someone has answered my gentle prayers and FINALLY designed a pen that I can use all month long! I use it when I’m swimming, riding a horse, walking on the beach and doing yoga. It’s comfortable, leak-proof, non-slip and it makes me feel so feminine and pretty! Since I’ve begun using these pens, men have found me more attractive and approchable. It has given me soft skin and manageable hair and it has really given me the self-esteem I needed to start a book club and flirt with the bag-boy at my local market. My drawings of kittens and ponies have improved, and now that I’m writing my last name hyphenated with the Robert Pattinson’s last name, I really believe he may some day marry me! I’m positively giddy. Those smart men in marketing have come up with a pen that my lady parts can really identify with.
Reviewer Courtney: I see this comes in a sleek design. But as a “full-figured” woman, do these pens come in “curvy and carefree”?
Reviewer Ersil: Can these pens be bought individually? I only intend to write things until I find a man and get married, so it’s a waste of my hard-earned secretary salary to buy the whole pack.
Reviewer P Davies: First of all I’m a male. I picked a pink one up by mistake to write a quick note… Next thing I know I’m sitting down to take a pee. Be careful.
Reviewer Dan Kaufman: Men, don’t stand for this. Aren’t there enough products specific to women already? First it was tampons, now these pens? What other products will I have to suffer the indignity of being unable to purchase just because I’m a male person?”
Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres also reserved a special section of her show for these gender-specific pens that cost twice as much as, well, men’s pens. Watch the hilarious video below.
We really hope these pens don’t make their way to India. With ads such as Fair & Lovely and Max Bupa Family Health Insurance already doing the rounds, we really do not need any further gender stereotyping.
