Rishma Lath Talks About the Eccentric Side of Her Colour Palette
There are not many places where you will get unique hand-painted iPad covers with your fave music icon on them, but we have found the perfect brand that makes such awesome products. Everything by Crazy Palette is hand-painted and adds a splash of colour to your life. From iPad covers, to clutches to cushions, you know you’re in for a visual treat when you browse through their eye-catching products. We chit-chat with owner and sole painter, Rishma Lath about how she uses her artistic talent to create such a unique brand.
Why did you start Crazy Palette?
Crazy Palette was started completely by chance. Bored of the regular desk-job, I made an impulsive decision to quit one day. And that’s when Crazy Palette was born. Sitting at home idle, I started painting my sneakers and t-shirts. Soon I was doing it for my friends and relatives. The encouragement and appreciation I received pushed me to pursue this further and start a brand.
Why is your palette “crazy”?
Every artist has an eccentric side to him or her, and so do I. That’s what makes my palette ‘Crazy’. Not limiting my mediums, materials, skills and techniques helps my creative juices flow and create each piece of art from the heart.
What does your collection include?
Crazy Palette is a collection of unique hand-painted apparel and accessories. Each creation complements the user’s personality and individuality. The current collection includes shoes, t-shirts, bags, totes, cushions and iPad covers. Anything and everything that you can think of having painted can be done. So the list is definitely not limited to this.
You’ve recently started designing iPad covers which feature legendary music icons and TV stars. Why did you choose to paint these characters on iPad covers?
I wanted to cater to the youngsters who own iPads. They watch TV shows like The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, and so on. Their next favourite is always music. You will invariably find this young crowd going all over the place with their ears plugged, listening to music. These iPad covers are made especially for them.
How long does it take you to complete one painting?
It usually takes 3 to 4 hours to complete a painting. At times, some days are just more productive than others.
Do you have just one piece in each design?
Yes, since all my products are hand-painted, only one piece is available in each design. Each Crazy Palette product you own will be your unique possession. If you really like a particular product and it’s sold out, it could be done specially for you in some special cases.
What kind of paint do you use?
I usually work with acrylic colours. I am constantly trying out new techniques and mediums to create different effects.
Tell us about your background with regard to being an artist.
Art has always been an integral part of my life. It is truly a passion. I have been pursuing sketching and painting since a very young age. Painting is a definitely mood lifter for me. The joy of seeing someone carry my creation and the appreciation drives me to continue painting and designing. Academically, I have a degree in Multimedia and Animation and worked as a CG artist before starting Crazy Palette.
What’s in Crazy Palette’s pipeline?
New creations are constantly being added to Crazy Palette. After the iPad covers, I am planning to do a range of laptop sleeves and bags. There is a long way ahead for Crazy Palette and I hope to keep creating unique art along the way.
How do you like your association with Shop InOnIt?
I love the collection of designers, artists and their funky products on Shop InOnIt. So far it’s been great being associated with Shop InOnIt, and hoping for it to be even better in the future.
As told to Suezelle D’Costa.
