Roundup: Selfies of 2013
Out of the many things that 2013 will be recalled for, the phenomena of taking a picture of yourself using a mobile phone also known as a “selfie” stole every other headline’s thunder. The word and trend of taking selfies got so popular that it officially became the newest entry to the Oxford Dictionary in 2013 and with that found a permanent home in the English language. From celebrities to politicians, all were seen posing, pouting and getting a bit camera-obsessed on numerous occasions. Here’s a roundup of some of the best, worst, coolest and controversial selfies of 2013 for you to remember the year gone by.
I am Too Sexy For a Selfie
Out of all the selfies of 2013, we are most thankful for the ones that Bollywood superhero Hrithik Roshan and English football star David Beckham clicked. It definitely made us feel more self(ie) motivated. *drools*
If Hollywood has Miley Cyrus, we have our very own Priyanka Chopra, both actors/singers who seem to be on a clicking spree of their own. While PC’s pictures are getting a tad monotonous (yes, there are only so many ways you can pout), on the other hand, Miley’s digital mug shots has left us scarred for life.
Even in our wildest dreams, we had never once imagined waking up to a selfie of Pope Francis. And just before the year ended, Prince William made taking selfies royal by posing for one. Long Live Selfies!
We loved actor James Franco’s pun intended semi-nude photo with the caption, “All the kids are doing it.” But, what we loved even more are Shah Rukh Khan’s first attempts at a selfie.
Seems like the paparazzi doesn’t stalk them enough, and celebrities have decided to take matter into their own hands. While Beyonce revealed her new haircut through a twit pic, Rihanna too showed off her gun-shaped teeth bling in a selfie we wish we hadn’t seen.
The famous Kim Kardashian sure made social media headlines in her barely-there swimsuit and post baby birth photo. But what made bigger headlines was US President Barack Obama’s ill-timed selfie at leader Nelson Mandela’s funeral. #big #mistake.
But nothing beats a bird taking a selfie from a stolen camera and an astronaut posing for a picture while he is in space. For us, these two win the coolest selfies of 2013 filters down.
