As I stepped into 212 Bar and Grill
at Worli to preview the All Things Nice Wine Week
, Nikhil Agarwal, the mastermind behind this wine-filled week, greeted me. He brimmed with enthusiasm about getting people to come out and try different varieties of wine, both from Indian and International winemakers. We moved on to wine and food pairings quickly.
We kicked off with the Sula Brut Rosé, which is an easy choice to start with, especially for new wine drinkers. This was paired with watermelon and feta. My favorite pairing was the Australian Clairault Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2010 with the Mushroom Pate on Puff With Thyme.
The Fratelli Sangiovese was a delicious red Indian wine (vineyard in Akluj near Pune) paired with your choice of meat (Cubed Tenderloin Steak With Asparagus In Hollandaise) or balsamic marinated vegetables. Some of the other wines that our group of food lovers and writers enjoyed were the French Pinot Noir and the Indian Cabernet Sauvignon (Reveilo Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2010, Nasik, India).
From speaking with Nikhil, we learnt that he has tied up with a number of famous restaurants to offer a flat 30% off on any wine that a customer chooses to order, which is an amazing deal for those who want to try new wines or indulge in their favorites. He plans on organizing this twice a year.
You can come up with your own food pairings or look at suggested options. Rest assured, it will be a winsome meal!
Wine week starts on 11th February and ends on 17th February 2013.
