Flashback: Sonam Kapoor’s Stylish Looks From 2013

I don’t think there’s a stylish soul in the country who can ignore the statements the effervescent Sonam Kapoor makes. She’s glamorous, she’s quirky, she’s experimental, and then she’s safely super gorgeous; it’s almost effortless, seeing her on the ramps, red carpets, events, public appearances, looking like a million bucks (quite literally, considering the brands she wears). She had a couple of movies in her kitty through the year of 2013, but we’re not going to sit and discuss movies right now. What I’ve gone over, over and over, is how she looked super stunning in almost all her appearances. Read on:

Looking stunning in an Anamika Khanna creation at the Cannes Film Festival, I love how the nath added so much dimension to this look. Another actor would have probably kept it plain and simple with the embellished shoulders making the statement, but in this case, that’s simply background. With bright lips and a popped nose accessory, she gets bonus points for leaving the ears bare and having the winged eyes look. Also, I’m totally digging the nude lower lash-line!

I’ve got to be honest, when I saw an Instagram picture of hers the night of this event, all I said was, “WOW!” She was by far the best dressed celebrity at the event and she definitely knew that herself, too. With the understated black slim-fit cut, and the royally embellished shoulders and neckline, she looked like the perfect style doll. Personally I feel the bare ears are perfect for leaving the bling-work to do their statement making.

See, I told you she was experimental. The hair-do with the center parting in this look reminds me of the late 50s. Plus, the delicate strappy sandals are great if aiming for the illusion of longer legs. The asymmetric pockets popping out of the midi skirt are a brilliant idea, so utilitarian too!

This is where I meant “safely gorgeous”. This Dolce & Gabbana look is super princess-like. It’s conventional, simple, and yet so stunning. I don’t mean to sound biased when I say this, it’s not like she’s my favorite actor or anything (style icon, certainly; actor, definitely not), but I don’t quite think that any other Indian female actor would have been able to add so much of fun in such an elegant number. With the wash-curls on one side of her shoulders, it oozes just the right balance of Disney Princess meets Bollywood.

Now this one is hardcore diva. With the smokey eyes, tall heels, all black look, cinched waist and super chic hair up do, I really don’t think there’s anything missing. The ear studs are perfectly in sync with the message and the front cross-chest design is just a cherry on the cake. Would it be inappropriate to say this is so S&M?

Baby pink and black, a combination that’s always been among my favorites. With the laced polka dots on the blouse well combined with the texture bordering the pink area, it looks like she’s just sprung out of the retro era. The bun with small danglers are a great idea, too.

I think that waist cinches are her thing?! Anyway, this Gucci pre-fall number has been pap’d more times than you can count on more than a few celebrities. With the statement neckpiece, lace bustier and gold/antique detailing in the accessories, I think this one’s a great everyday style expression; not very formal, not too casual.

So those were my favourite Sonam Kapoor appearances in 2013. I’m excited to see what this style diva brings on in 2014.
