Spa Review: Runah Spa and Salon
What do you do when you have some free time in the Lower Parel area? We’re talking somewhere near Phoenix. Well, grabbing a bite is always an option or walking around Palladium to check out new collections at their high end fashion stores. I had more than an hour to kill as I waited for a friend to join me for lunch and so I decided to check out Runah Spa and Salon’s location across the road from High Street Phoenix, right next to Quattro. The entry way was small and did not indicate the presence of a much bigger salon upstairs, so I was quite surprised as I entered a spacious, long rectangular room that was buzzing with customers, mid-morning on a Saturday.
I took a quick look at the services offered and decided to go for a back massage and a pedicure. The masseuse led me to a massage room and as I changed into the linen provided by them, I noticed the absence of soothing music and the aroma of oils, an ambience which is very much created in every spa. Also, there was no air conditioning in the room. The room, however, was clean and comfortable. As the massage began and the fragrance of the oil filled the room, my prejudices melted away and I found myself enjoying it tremendously. Just a perfect way to start the weekend as I dozed off to the drone of the fan. Even though it lasted for about 45 minutes (which was the specified time), I felt it ended quickly as I was ushered out and handed over to Vikas, their expert pedicurist.
Vikas was experienced and well versed with what he was doing. Instead of a regular pedicure, looking at the sad condition of my feet (I tried to cover up by explaining to Vikas that I’d been hiking recently), he suggested I go in for a spa pedicure, which included a special scrub, tablets that were effective in removing dry skin and a glow pack.
I also noticed while getting the pedicure, that in front of me was a refrigerator stocked with different flavours of Haagen Dazs ice-cream. I was told these were for sale and you could get a small one for Rs. 200. The salon also had a special consultation and treatment room for Kérastase products. On getting a tour of the place, I was shown three massage rooms, a spa room for special hair treatments and a waxing cabin with two sub-cabins.
A regular pedicure at Runah Spa and Salon costs Rs. 450 and a spa pedicure is for Rs. 1,200 whereas a back massage is for Rs. 1,000. A complete body massage with Thalgo oil costs Rs. 2,200. I’d definitely recommend this place for salon services or if what you are looking for is some personalized consultation for your hair by experts. I was told the consultation is free of charge and they identify hair type and quality, and also suggest products and treatments based on the consultation, which of course are optional. For the spa treatments, I’d expect the atmosphere to be more authentic but if the massage I went for is anything to go by, the spa services are worth giving a shot as well.
