Things-to-do: Funfairs and Classic Movie Screenings

Hello folks! This week is filled with cultural excitement. From classic movie screenings and photography exhibitions to a French food festival and a dance and poetry extravaganza, the city will be a hub for all things literary. Fun Fair

19th, 20th and 21st April – A funfair to raise money for educating the enthusiastic, the needy and the poor will take place on the grounds of BPM High School on 17th road, Khar (W), from today till Sunday. An initiative of Mumbai Suburban Education Society, the event will have fun activities for kids like magic shows, juggling, fancy dress, stand-up comedy, creative competitions and more that are open to all. You can also simply visit to try out some homemade delights at the different food stalls or shop for some fun products while you’re there. 20th – 21st April – View an exhibition of photographs titled Me Against The Sun by Wilfred Louis at Gallery Le Sutra, Out of the Blue, Khar. The show is the first one in a series of projects by Photokindness that seeks to give back to society through the art of photography. The collection is experimentation with the sun that captures silhouettes, colours and other beautiful moments in natural light. Proceeds of the exhibit will go to DEEDS, an NGO for the hearing-impaired. For more information, call on 022 66420000.



20th -24th April – If you’re a movie buff and enjoy watching old school movies, then head to PVR Juhu for their Classic Cut Film Festival. Watch epic movies like Sholay, Deewar, Karz, Seeta aur Geeta and more till Wednesday i.e. 24th April 2013. The festival will take place at 9 pm at the Juhu outlet of PVR Cinemas.



17th to 23rd April – Olive Bar and Kitchen in Mahalaxmi has a French Food Festival going on called Bistronomy for a week. Le Bistro du Parc will embrace a causual and comfortable dining philosophy with a menu that is seasonal, using fresh ingredients with French traditions and techniques. Satiate your food cravings with Mille Feuille de Fromage de Chevre, sauce Vierge et Amandes, mild Goats cheese contrasted with sweet, slow cooked red peppers and a bright, infused sauce of herbs and almonds or try a melt-in-your-mouth slow cooked lamb served with rich mashed potato patties. 15th to 30th April – Indulge in a liquid buffet at The Beluga, The Lalit in Andheri this month. Quite literally, the liquid meal includes unlimited aperitifs, beer or sparkling wine as a ‘starter’, unlimited cocktails as ‘main course’ and rose wines or liquors as dessert for Rs. 1,500 per person. Each guest will have their own special cocktail trolley and can sate their hunger at a canapé station. The buffet is on from 7 pm till 9 pm every day They weren’t kidding when they said ‘liquid’.


Club Life

25th April – An otherwise quaint little restaurant, Chez Moi in Oshiwara turns into a pumping Boiler Bar every Thursday with interesting gigs to look forward to every week. This time around, the restaurant aka. bar in association with VH1 will have a mix of electronic music being played by Vice Versa from 10 pm onwards. Entry is free of cost. Because it is important to break the monotony of weekdays with some great music!


19th April – If you’re confused where to spend your Friday night dancing away, head to Royalty in Bandra, as electronic music DJs Rebecca and Fiona come to India from Sweden for the first time. Dance and Culture

24th to 28th April – The Mudra Dance Festival commences this month at NCPA, Mumbai, where you will see an ecstatic bunch of medieval poets working up words in a beautiful manner. The Mudra Festival of Dance and Bhakti Poetry will have five leading dancers, many talented poets and creative modes like discussions, performances, film screenings and workshops. Join this happy carnival at the Experimental Theatre at NCPA from 7 pm to 8:30 pm.
