Things-to-do: Mumbai’s book fair and baking for kids
This week, we have something for everyone. Bookworms can head to Mumbai’s first and only book fair, foodies can celebrate Songkran festival and dig into delectable Thai cuisine or visit a dessert exhibit featuring sweet treats made by fifteen women, while ambitious mommies can sign their kids up for a baking workshop. 14th April – For those junior masterchefs in your homes, who help you sprinkle chocolate flakes over your cakes, it’s time you hand them the baking hat and let them learn the art. APB Cook Studio is holding Mini Mits, a baking class for your little ones on Sunday from 11 am till 2 pm. This special summer holiday class will include simple recipes like easy chocochip cookies, fudgy brownies and vanilla cupcakes with different toppings. 13th to 21st April – Book addicts can head to Mumbai’s first book fair – Mumbai Book Fair at Hiranandani Foundation School in Powai that will be a readers paradise with book stalls, author interactions, workshops, book singing and lots more. The fair is on every day and starts at noon on weekends and at 2 pm on weekdays, going on till 10 pm. A 1-day ticket costs Rs. 30 and access to all 9 days costs Rs. 100. 12th to 21st April – Red Zen at Courtyard by Marriot, Mumbai International Airport, celebrates Thai New Year with a special menu prepared by Chef Phong. The Songkran festival delights will include dishes like silken tofu with chilli basil sauce in crispy wonton cup, Thai shrimp paste flavour clear soup, sesame marinated dried pork with sriracha sauce and lots more. Also try their traditional Thai desserts such as Thai lemongrass crème Brule and sweet mango with coconut sticky rice. 18th April – Accessed, an online provider of unique experiences is holding a dessert exhibition on Thursday, 18th April at Ave 29 on Huges Road. The exhibit will showcase desserts made by fifteen women, which will include fruit cakes, cupcakes, macarons, brownies, breads, desserts for pets, healthy and vegan desserts and lots more. 11th to 13th April – Artist Jaishree Pankaj is showcasing her art of intricate paper cuttings titled Jharokha, after 19 years in Mumbai. The 63-year-old artist has adopted this unique art form in which she uses fine, surgical scissors to create intricate paper cuttings so as to create beautiful and stunning artwork and wall panels on varied themes. The exhibit will take place at Artisans, 52-56 Dr. VB Gandhi Marg in Kala Ghoda from 11 am till 7 pm and you can call on 022 2672290 for more details.
14th April – A night trek to Kalsubai can break the monotony for you this weekend. The highest peak in the Western Ghats with a height of 1646m, this gorgeous mountain gives you a breathtaking view and also has a small temple of Devi Kalsubai at its peak.
