Trends Gone Wrong at Filmfare Awards 2014

Do you remember the time when you were a kid and your mother gave you a million dollar advice, “Never follow anything blindly?” Apparently, some of us didn’t pay heed.  Following trends blindly can lead to mishaps beyond imagination and the red carpet was nothing but a loud demonstration of trends gone wrong at the 59th Idea Filmfare awards 2014.

Deepika Padukone’s Sheer + Solid Look

Best Actress Deepika Padukone, but not Best Dressed

While sheer and solid form a good amalgamation, wearing a gown that looks like an under construction piece of cloth that got stitched on just one side is not a good idea. Although Deepika looks pretty with her hair and makeup perfectly done, this Gaurav Gupta WBD would have looked much better if it would have been customised for the occasion.  Atleast she could have posed well and not just let the photographers click only one half of her.

Rhea Chakraborthy’s Cut Outs

Perhaps we should’ve spent 10 extra minutes to iron this?

There is nothing wrong with the cobalt blue Sailex dress, it’s right on trend with a waist cut-out, a nice back and great color. Rhea’s hair do goes well with the look, but seriously, is it too much trouble to get your dress ironed before you hit the red carpet?

Priyanka Chopra’s Peplum

So disappointing!

One would expect more from the host of the event but Priyanka failed to impress. She wore a strapless peplum Alexander McQueen gown with gold leaves embroidered on the peplum. Not only did the gold leaves look hideous but also did her side swept awkwardly short hair. Unflattering shoulders are not something to flaunt, never liked her in strapless!

Karisma Kapoor’s Saree Gown

And that’s what we call overkill!

Karisma Kapoor could score the highest on the trend tracker: saree gown (check), jacket blouse (check), black-and-ivory (check), as well as on the list of trends gone wrong. She looked like a mannequin with yards of embroidered cloth wrapped on it. It’s okay if the mannequin would be nicely set in one of those eccentric, cultural shops of Kolkata but definitely not on the red carpet of Filmfare awards.

We’re Feeling Ruffle-d

While Huma Qureshi’s ruffled Gauri and Nainika gown made me feel overwhelmed with ruffles all over her large structure, Richa Chadda’s Hervé Léger red bodycon dress with disturbingly placed ruffles looked like a crocodile’s tail. Only if there could be a crash course on How to wear Ruffles, we would be spared of the visual terror.

This year, the Filmfare Awards saw a galaxy of stars fancy dressed, but not in a good way. We’re deeply disappointed and are hoping to see better days in 2014. And ladies, please take notice and have a conversation with your stylists. Everybody has their bad outfit days and all we need is an honest, sharp friend who wouldn’t sugar coat the truth.
