Five Unique Home Decor Stores We Love
We love adding a personal touch to our homes and work spaces. Isn’t it an amazing feeling when a friend walks in and says, “Wow! This is so you!”? But since expressing our individuality is not as easy with our living space as it is with our wardrobe, we’ve searched and searched and found some amazing and quirky home decor stores we know you’ll love. What’s more, all of them are online too, so worry not, they’ll come to wherever you are!
1. Design Temple
On a random art walk in Colaba (Mumbai), one fine Saturday afternoon, we took a wrong turn and found ourselves at the footsteps of Design Temple, a home and lifestyle store that epitomizes Urban Indian Cool. A range of products that seem inspired by everything Indian from the Kamasutra to the Devnagiri script, from Shiva to Sikhism, you will definitely see yourself adding to your home, be it it with something as small as a set of greeting cards, a Shiva Lingam candle, or as big as a pillar that can be doubled as pouf for seating. If you’re not in Mumbai, check them out here.
2. Kynkyny Home
Storage Box from Kyknyny Home
We stumbled upon the facebook page of this fabulous design store and couldn’t stop browsing. Be it a four poster bed, a coffee table, a wall / shelf unit, or a small storage box, this is for you if you are a lover of art inspired home decor and furniture. Clean, sophisticated and natural, their home products resonate warmth and at the same time have a modern touch. The store is based in Bangalore, India, and run by its creative director Vivek Radhakrishnan, who is a graduate from The Design Academy Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Just one caveat: Although we loved their product designs, their website was not as easy to browse through, so we recommend you FB addicts “Like” their page pronto.
3. Urban Ladder
Quirky Side Table by Urban Ladder
They say necessity is the mother of invention. This home store came into being when the founders, while setting up their homes, realized the lack of options when it comes to well designed, good quality and affordable furniture. What we love are the smaller furniture items including the side tables, smaller storage bins which is part of their Kaleido range. Check them out on facebook, or their website.
Now moving on to our walls, below are two stores that help us find some wonderful art in a budget-friendly way:
4. Crude Area
Deluge from Crude Area
A fantastic collection of art by emerging designers for all kinds of spaces and moods, be it dreamy, feel good, sombre or uplifting. What’s more, they allow you to choose between Print and Canvas, and you can get it framed too. The print versions (which of course, are cheaper) , make for great gifts (Hint to all my friends reading this!)
What we are loving right now: Deluge
5. Kulture Shop
Kulture Shop Showroom in Bandra West
This one’s the new kid on the block. A flat in a building across from Bandra’s Mehboob Studio now houses a cool home and lifestyle store launched by a team of artists, design and marketing professionals. Showcasing a collection of graphic art prints for both your wall and your t-shirts, this design store’s aim is to support the artist. The emphasis is on the artist so that buying a piece from here is like buying into an artist’s story. To maintain the uniqueness of your purchase, Kulture Shop art tees and art prints are both limited edition, the total number available varying by each collection. Check them out here.
We hope this has helped you in your never ending quest for uniqueness.
