The Week That Was: 17th to 23rd March
In the words of Mr Yo Yo Honey Singh, ‘Aaj blue hai pani pani pani pani pani pani pani aur din bhi sunny sunny sunny sunny sunny sunny sunny’, but if you can’t, for some reason, gyrate in a bikini on a beach today…we suggest you make the best out of this hot summer day by catching up on everything that happened last week while devouring a large tub of ice cream. As for Honey Singh, I’ll talk to him about writing a new song that suits this situation better. Meanwhile, read on:
RIP Khushwant Singh
At the age of 99, India’s renowned historian-writer-journalist left for his heavenly abode. Remembered for his sharp wit, unabashedly honest views and daring journalistic sensibilities, Khushwant Singh has undoubtedly been one of the most celebrated public figures our country has seen. So charming were his self deprecating ways, that even in death he left us smiling, here’s the epitaph he had written for himself long ago:
“Here lies one who spared neither man nor God
Waste not your tears on him, he was a sod
Writing nasty things he regarded as great fun
Thank the Lord he is dead, this son of a gun.” (Death at my Doorstep, Roli Books).
RIP Sir. You live through your words.
Holi Cow Spice Jet!
Well turns out dancing to Balam Pichkari can in fact be injurious to health. Well, not literally. But in a not so celebratory turn of events, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a show-cause notice to SpiceJet, asking as to why the airline’s permit should not be suspended after safety violations on board its flights on Holi came to the regulator’s notice. Eight flights operated by the airline on March 17 had cabin crew performing a dance sequence mid-air to celebrate Holi. In one of the videos, posted on YouTube, a pilot can be seen coming out of the cockpit and taking photos of the celebrations.
Does anyone else find this even a little bit funny? No? Okay, it’s just me then.
Madonna And Her Hair-Raising Ways
Most days we love that insight we get into the lives of our favourite celebrities thanks to incessant Instagram stalking. But then there are days, when you see more than you bargained for. Madonna, the 55 year old pop sensation, shared a snapshot of her ever-growing armpit hair with the caption: “Long hair…… Don’t Care!!!!!! #artforfreedom #rebelheart#revolutionoflove.” The hashtag #artforfreedom references her digital initiative that encourages artists to express creativity in a way that brings awareness to human rights violations. So this is all for a purpose then? With our favourite material girl, you can never say!
Ranveer Singh, You Bold Beauty
He wears his heart on his sleeve and exudes raw sexuality. India’s latest heart throb has captured the hearts of many with a personality that seems to be nothing like we’ve ever seen, at least for an actor. Keeping with this exciting and full of surprises persona, we hear he has decided to set a precedent by giving his nod to endorse a condom brand. This is a definite game changer because most A-Grade actors don’t like to be associated with advertisements that are sexual in nature. Ah well! Our Ranveer; always doing things differently. Now when’s the ad coming out already? *echoes the sentiment of Indian girls everywhere*
Kimye In Vogue
So Kim Kardashian and Kanye West (better known as Kimye) have finally graced the cover of Vogue Magazine. And if you’ve been online at all this week, there’s no way you could have missed this news. It’s caused such an uproar, it actually makes you wonder why people care so much at all. Is Vogue really that sacred to some? It doesn’t really matter what all their detractors are saying about how the power couple isn’t worthy of being on the cover, because fashion czarina and Vogue’s editor Anna Wintour summarized it really well when she wrote:
Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue, one that lies in a long tradition of this magazine, is being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it. I think we can all agree on the fact that that role is currently being played by Kim and Kanye to a T. (Or perhaps that should be to a K?),” “As for the cover, my opinion is that it is both charming and touching, and it was, I should add, entirely our idea to do it; you may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancée on Vogue‘s cover. He did nothing of the sort. The gossip might make better reading, but the simple fact of the matter is that it isn’t true.”
And on that happy note, we end The Week That Was. Until next week, stay happy and stay InOnIt.
