The Week That Was: Bonanza Week

There are some weeks when I’m fishing, literally scoping out interesting news to give you all. And then there are weeks like this; just unbelievably hectic, action-packed, buzzing, happening weeks. Each time I’d think I already have enough material to write ‘the week that was’, let’s just say many more was’ took place. I guess that’s why they say one should always expect the unexpected! Here’s recapping a whole lot of excitement bundled into one week. Read on.

The Champions Are Here
Germany has emerged as the champions of the FIFA World Cup, Brazil 2014, after a hard fought 120-minute battle with Argentina at the Maracana. The win made Germany the first European team to prevail in a World Cup in the Americas and gave the Germans, who have made it to the knockout stage in 16 consecutive World Cups, their first trophy since 1990. As German fans and supporters rejoice, one can’t help but spare a thought for Messi, who has missed the one title he needs to forever take his place among the game’s all-time greats. Errm, Messi if you’re reading this, you win some you lose some!

Each Journey Must End
I regretfully include this in my weekly round up :( Zohra Sehgal, the grand dame of India’s performing arts, died in New Delhi on Thursday at age 102. As the fraternity mourns her loss, they also celebrate her life as she clearly had a life well lived; on her own terms and filled with art. The twinkle in her eye will never be forgotten. RIP Zohraji, the lady with all the wit and vigour who taught us Indians what it is to go beyond stereotypes. PS: There will never be a cuter on-screen grandma!

Snooze Please!
What’s wrong with a little nap? Nothing, right? Well, not if you are Rahul Gandhi. (Yes, it’s him again!) Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi appeared to have briefly dozed off in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday in footage sourced from cameras placed in the House. Much to the embarrassment of the Congress, the nap came in the middle of a debate on price rise. It figures, it figures. Pssst, what’s Rahul’s favourite thing to eat? Answer: Soya Sauce *I slay myself* :D

Femina, You Beauty
A big shout out to the good folks at Femina for this revolutionary cover with the gorgeous Huma Qureshi. Endorsing beauty, style and good looks is one thing, and we at InOnIt support that. But to expect every woman to adhere to one beauty standard is preposterous. The cover with beautiful, curvy and, most importantly, talented actress Huma Qureshi reads, ‘I don’t owe you perfection. My body, my rules’. You said it sister, you so said it.
